Malta In The White House? 😲 Joe Biden Announces That Pete Buttigieg Will Lead Transportation Dep 😎

Prosit Pete! 😁

In case you forgot, Pete Buttigieg is the half-Maltese, former mayor who was the first LGBTQ candidate to run as a U.S. presidential candidate.

Now, following Joe Biden recently being announced as the new U.S. President, Joe has announced that Pete will serve as the country's official Transportation Secretary.

Is Pete The Man For The Job? 🤔

In Pete's time as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, he made several propositions to help build a better America, one of which was a $1 trillion infrastructure plan that prioritized upgrading the country's crumbling infrastructure and also expanding broadband internet access.

Biden added that he sees the Department of Transportation as the "site of some of our most ambitious plans to build back better" and that he trusts "Mayor Pete to lead this work with focus, decency, and a bold vision."

"Mayor Pete Buttigieg is a patriot and a problem-solver who speaks to the best of who we are as a nation, I am nominating him for Secretary of Transportation because this position stands at the nexus of so many of the interlocking challenges and opportunities ahead of us."

- President-Elect Joe Biden

Pete also spearheaded a number of infrastructure projects during his stint as mayor of South Bend, including a program to make the city's sewers "smart" as a way to prevent flooding - he also led a plan that got rid of a number of one-way streets in South Bend's downtown in an effort to revitalize the area.

In his day as mayor, Pete often stressed how local governments like the one he ran needed people in the White House who understood their individual needs and issues, so that they could receive appropriate funding to improve their situations on a local level.

The fact then, that Pete has now has been given the power to make serious change on a national level, after starting out at a small scale, is very encouraging.

Best Of Luck To A Fellow Malteser 🇲🇹

Assuming Pete is approved by the Senate, he'll be leading the agency that will serve as a key piece of the puzzle to carrying out Biden's plans to re-energize US infrastructure.

Buttigieg would be the first LGBTQ cabinet secretary to be approved by Senate, with the role serving as pivotal experience for Pete who may run for president again in the future.
