Here’s A Summary On What’s Changing With MCAST Student Exams, Resits, Dissertations & Placements 📚

Due to the current COVID-19 emergency, MCAST are taking multiple decisions together with KSM regarding issues that are that are worrying students.

Freehour have personally reached out to KSM & MCAST about these issues and the following announcements have been obtained.

Assessments, Resits & Exams 📝

1) - Exams will not be held on campus. Alternative assessments will take place through the use of technology and could include take-home assignments & tests.

2) - Assessments will be held by the end of the academic year 2019-2020, i.e. 10th July.

3) - Assessments tackled online will address only those components of the unit that have already been taught or are being taught online.

4) - Practical assessments will be tackled once MCAST reopens. Additional information about the assessment of practical components will be made available at a later stage.

5) - Synoptics (with the exception of those including a practical component), will be held by the end of the academic year 2019-2020 that is 10th July 2020.

Automatic Advancements? 🤔

In the case that you fail your exams, it is possible that you may still be promoted to the next year if you match certain criteria.

Full details can be found in questions 15 - 18, here

Practicals & Placements 🔬🧪

MCAST will be exploring ways of how to schedule all mandatory practical components/placements in September before the start of the new academic year.

Dissertations 📑

1) - Dissertations will follow set deadlines. However, extensions can be made if the request is properly justified. Request form can be downloaded here.

2) - Where possible, dissertations will be submitted as scheduled, and lecturers will correct & submit the results by the first week of July. 3) - If submitting your dissertation isn't possible due to practical components, you can submit by no later than 18th September, or as agreed with the Director of Institute.

4) - VIVA sessions will be held online.

Still have questions? 🤔

There's a new online complaint system called "The Journey Continues" where you can ask or complain about absolutely anything school-related and get an official response from KSM 😇

Wondering if you're alone in your confusion? 😅

Last week, we asked a few MCAST students about how their school has been communicating - see what they said here 😊
