Charmaine Gauci Nominated For Prestigious European Award By Malta’s 6 MEPs 🇪🇺 🤩
Charmaine Gauci and her outstanding team of healthcare workers have been nominated for the European Citizens’ Prize by Malta’s 6 MEPs.
It's been a month since Gauci ended her much loved COVID-19 press conferences yet our Superintendent of Public Health is still receiving praise for her inspirational work in dealing with the pandemic.
Gauci’s daily COVID-19 briefings were seen as a point of reference and hope during the harsher pandemic months, though they came to an end as Malta began to register a decline in active cases at the beginning of this month.
MEPs Miriam Dalli, Roberta Metsola, Alfred Sant, David Casa, Alex Agius Saliba and Josianne Cutajar have nominated her for this amazing European award in a great show of appreciation.
“Professor Gauci’s inspirational leadership during the worst of the pandemic [...] meant Malta and Gozo were able to respond to the pandemic, ‘flatten the curve’ and mitigate the spread of the contagion,” they said in a press release.
The European Citizen's Prize was launched by the European Parliament back in 2008 as a form of recognition for exceptional achievements by Europeans. The laureates can be either citizens, groups, associations or organisations.
It is intended to annually reward those who have distinguished themselves in strengthening European integration by expressing European cooperation, openness to others and practical involvement in developing mutual understanding.
