Bernie Sanders Takes Advantage Of His Viral Meme, Sells Sweatshirts For Charity With Meme On It 😂
A New Meme Is Born 👶
Nothing quite beats the excitement of seeing a new viral meme on your timeline to brighten up your week. As of recently, Casual Bernie was born, a meme which sees senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders being randomly photoshopped in a hilarious variety of different scenes...
The Origin Story 🤔
You might think that there's some kind of special meaning or long backstory behind the meme, but honestly, there really isn't much to it.
Basically, on the recent inauguration day of newly elected US President Joe Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders was photographed dressed in very wholesome attire, with a particularly cosy & casual demeanour about him - sporting a mask and a pair of woolen mittens.
That's all it seemed to take to launch the internet into a frenzy it seems, with hilarious edits flooding every newsfeed in just a matter of hours, and still doing so to this day.
Reacting to his viral moment, Sanders, on the Late Night show with Seth Meyers, said:
"I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on."
The mittens were made by Jen Ellis from repurposed wool and recycled plastic bottles, and have now received over 10,000 orders in the past few days.
Now, the 79-year-old senator has turned his inauguration day meme into sweatshirts, which are being sold on his campaign website for $45 in aid of 'Meals on Wheels Vermont' - who are an organisation that deliver hot meals to people with disabilities and chronic conditions under the age of 60.
Memes For Charity 💸
As you can see in the above image, the clothes seem to be as popular as the meme, as all variations are now "sold out due to overwhelming demand" according to the campaign store.
