6 Ways To Retain Your Focus Whilst Intense Studying

1. Pomodoro Technique

Here’s how this works: Decide on a task. Set the timer to 45 minutes. Work on the task until the timer rings. Take a short 5-minute break. Get back to studying. And repeat. This method helps your mind recharge every 45 minutes.

2. Listen To Music

Listening to music doesn’t let your mind wander off thinking about random stuff & instead stays grounded while you’re studying. It’s also been proven that classical or instrumental beats are better than songs with lyrics.

3. Get A Good Night Sleep

If you’re staying up late & only getting a couple of hours of sleep - how do you expect to have the energy to properly study the next day? Sleep is your time to rest & recharge for the night to wake up pumped to get back to studying.

4. Change Your Environment

Studies show that switching up your study environment can increase your motivation & performance. Try out a new coffee spot each week or head to the school library. A change in scenery can improve both your memory & concentration levels.

5. Eliminate Distractions

Your phone can be really tempting when you’re studying. Make a pact with yourself to avoid checking social media until your study session is over. Also avoid annoying background noises such as TV or people talking.

6. Exercise!

Getting up from your desk & doing some exercise is a great way to give your brain a well-deserved break. Try out a few yoga positions to stretch your muscles & clear your mind.

BONUS: Snack Smart!

Coffee, energy drinks & candy will give you a temporary boost, but then you’ll have a blood sugar crash. For energy that is more focused & sustainable, try healthy snacks such as fruit or nuts.
